Green Clean: Eco-Friendly Ways To Clean Your Home | Seven top tips to get you started …

Not only is eco-friendly cleaning better for the environment, having a green clean has more benefits than just making your home an environmentally friendly place to live …

If you want to give your home a green clean, then our top tips will get you started!

The products used for environmentally friendly cleaning are a lot safer and child and pet-friendly as they come from natural products. It is also a lot less expensive than using pre-made cleaning products as most of the ingredients used can be found around your house.

“A green clean makes your home a healthier place to live!”

Here are some quick and easy ways to start cleaning your home in a more environmentally friendly way:

  1. Let fresh air into your home

Get air moving around your home by opening all the windows and positioning a few fans in strategic places like hallways and staircases. This is a good, natural way to air out your home, making it fresh.

  2. Make glass sparkle with newspaper

Nothing gets glass cleaner than newspaper. The paper leaves behind virtually zero lint. Just spray the surface of the glass with a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar, rub the glass with a dry cloth and then go over the surface with a piece of newspaper to leave the surfaces looking shiny.

  3. Cut old towels into cleaning rags

Those old towels that are no longer fit to use when you get out of the shower could provide you with new cleaning rags. All you have to do is cut them up- it’s far better for the planet than using disposable paper towels.

  4. Eliminate odours with fresh lemons

Get rid of garlic, fish and other strong smells using half a cut lemon or some freshly squeezed lemon juice. To better the indoor air, simmer lemon peel on the stove and add water as needed.

  5. Sanitise sponges with salt

Rinse your sponges thoroughly and soak them in cold, heavily salted water for an hour or 2. This process will kill germs and plump the sponges back up again.

  6. No scrub oven cleaner

Baking powder is as easy as it gets, and whatever food you cook next won’t taste faintly of chemical cleaners. Sprinkle the baking powder all over the oven, spray it with water until it is well dampened, and leave it for a few hours. Then just wipe off the mess and use vinegar to remove the film of baking powder residue left behind.

  7. Disinfect surfaces with tea tree oil

Tea Tree Oil instantly kills bacteria, viruses and mould so it is the ideal cleaner for extra-germy spots. Add 2 cups of hot water to 2 tablespoons of washing up liquid and add ½ teaspoon of Tea Tree Oil and use on surfaces as needed.

I hope these green clean ideas help you get started on your more environmentally friendly cleaning and that you can see the benefits of using natural cleaning products rather than the ready-made ones.

Until next time …
