Why We Chose to Bring Extra Help to Tameside & Glossop

Our decision to launch Extra Help here is rooted in our personal history and our commitment to the place we call home. Both of us have lived and worked in Tameside for many years, and we’ve seen how much difference dependable, dignified support can make to local families.

Karen brings over a decade of frontline domiciliary care experience. She has seen the moments when care is delivered with warmth, patience, and respect — and the moments when people were let down. Those experiences shaped her belief that every person deserves to feel valued, listened to, and supported in a way that suits them as individuals.

Wayne’s background in leading service-focused teams across the UK has always been driven by high standards, clarity, and doing things properly. After losing both parents, the importance of compassionate support became deeply personal. It reinforced the belief that good care isn’t just a service — it’s a lifeline for families navigating some of life’s most vulnerable moments.

Together, we wanted to create something that honours those experiences and reflects the values of our community: warmth, reliability, and looking out for one another. Extra Help gives us the platform to deliver a premium, trustworthy, locally grounded service that genuinely makes life easier for people across Tameside and Glossop.

Supporting Our Community

We’re committed to building a team of caring, trustworthy local people who share our values. Every client is treated as an individual, every visit matters, and every service is delivered with the same care we’d want for our own families. Our goal is simple: to make life easier, brighter, and more supported for people across Tameside and Glossop.

We are proud to be part of the Dementia Friends initiative, helping us better understand the challenges faced by people living with dementia and their families. This means our team is trained to provide patient, reassuring, person‑centred support — whether that’s help with daily routines, companionship, or simply creating a calm, familiar environment. It reinforces our commitment to delivering care with empathy, respect, and understanding. All of our home helpers are either police or DBS checked, personal references taken, and regular client-feedback taken on home helpers’ works to ensure we provide clients with extra reassurance and ensure we are delivering the very highest levels of service.

We also offer a free service to help anyone over the age of 65 to claim attendance allowance, for more information about attendance allowance go to https://www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance/overview.
