Extra Help is thrilled to announce the launch of a new home-help franchise in Northumberland North, led by experienced healthcare professionals Jill and Sue. Having officially launched in April 2026, they’re bringing high quality, compassionate home-help services to people across the region, enabling clients to remain independent in their own homes.
Jill and Sue both live in Morpeth with their respective dogs, Jasper and Lottie, and cover communities across Northumberland North, including postcode areas NE22, NE23, NE24, NE61, NE62, NE63, NE64, NE65, NE66, NE67, NE68, NE69, NE70 and NE71.
A wealth of healthcare experience
The depth of Jill and Sue’s professional experience is one of the things that make this partnership so special.
Jill spent the last 24 years working as a physiotherapist for the NHS. She has worked across Edinburgh, Newcastle, the Isle of Man, Kent and Northumberland, and has specialised in neurology and community therapy for the last decade. Jill also completed a year-long Dementia Champion course and has a particular passion for supporting people living with dementia.
Sue’s career in mental health spans an incredible 47 years. She began as a nursing assistant and, subsequently, trained to become an Enrolled Mental Health Nurse.
Later, she attended university to qualify and work as a Registered Mental Health nurse and spent the majority of her career as a Community Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She has experience of a wide range of specialist services, such as early interventions, assertive outreach, prison and adult teams. Most recently, Sue has focused on the care of older people, where she identified a significant gap in practical and social support services for elderly clients who just need some day-to-day assistance but don’t require personal care.
Why did Sue and Jill choose a home-help franchise?
For Sue, investing in a home-help franchise offered the support, business guidance and shared experience that come with being part of an established network. Rather than starting entirely independently, she was attracted by the stability and expertise available from both the Extra Help head office team and fellow franchisees.
Jill’s journey began through conversations with Sue about the opportunity. Having witnessed first-hand the challenges many people face while working as a community physiotherapist, she immediately recognised the need for additional support services.
She explains, “I feel the services that Extra Help offers can make a real difference to people’s lives, enhancing their engagement and social interactions, as well as their health and well-being, and I wanted to be a part of that.”
