Extra Help launches in Hackney & Islington

In this week’s blog, we’re delighted to announce the launch of our latest home-help and cleaning franchise in the London area. Extra Help Hackney & Islington officially launched this month and is owned by Tracey Tayo.

Tracey lives on the border of Hackney and Islington with her son and is a born and bred Londoner. As she grew up in Hackney and has lived there for her entire life, she already knows her territory inside out and is ideally placed to respond to the needs of her local community.

With a solid background in the healthcare industry, Tracey originally worked for the British Red Cross for five years as a service co-ordinator, making sure people had the necessary support in place to live independently.

“It was whilst doing this job that I realised I wanted to set up a business doing something like this for myself,” she says, “However, I was nervous to do it on my own, so franchising seemed to be the ideal alternative.”

Tracey decided to attend The Franchise Show for inspiration, where she discovered Extra Help, met the team and realised it was the opportunity she’d been searching for. However, at the time, she was not in a position to invest in a franchise. Instead, she decided to train as a nurse, gaining extensive experience in the Accident and Emergency, Paediatrics and Sexual Health departments.

However, Tracey couldn’t forget about Extra Help, or her burning desire to run her own home-help business. For the next five years, she followed Extra Help, via social media, newsletters and blogs, until she was finally in a position to invest in her own franchise.

“I did look at other home-help franchises but chose Extra Help because of the rapport I’d built with Claire and her team when we met all those years ago,” she says.

Tracey says that, since signing the franchise agreement, she’s receiving excellent training and support, particularly through her mentor and fellow franchise owner Denise Cooper. She’s continuing to work as a nurse whilst building her new business, as the nature of her job in a clinic means she can be flexible with her working hours. Her nursing experience will stand her in good stead and her clients will be reassured that they’ll always be in safe hands. Like all Extra Help franchisees, Tracey has already trained to be a Dementia Friend and therefore understands the disease and knows how she can provide the best support to affected clients within her community.

Tracey has been busy doing leaflet drops to generate initial enquiries and has also contacted several local GPs and local council departments to introduce her new business. She’s currently learning how to create and use ‘Google My Business’, with the help of the Extra Help team, and is in the process of recruiting several home-helpers, all of whom will be DBS and reference checked.
